BREAKING NEWS- Murray cleared to race by Motorsport Ireland.
January 22, 2014 by Leo Nulty
Motorsport Ireland have today released the decision of their Tribunal of Enquiry. Niall Murray, the newly crowned Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year, had a 6 month ban imposed by the MSA, (the UK governing body) for withholding evidence from the officials following the Formula Ford Festival, which Murray won. Motorsport Ireland set up their own Tribunal to establish whether the ban should be upheld by them, as they issue Murray’s licence. The Tribunal findings, released today, state that although they are satisfied that an onboard camera’s memory card was removed by a member of Murray’s team before giving it to the Clerk of the Course, this was not done by Murray himself.
The entrant, in this case Niall himself, is however, according to GCR 114.1, responsible for the actions of his team and for this, they imposed a €1,500 fine. Their closing statement reads that the Tribunal members “do not want to blight the career of an up and coming driver and feel that the suspension of his licence would be too severe.”
This means that young Murray can take up his MI Young Driver prize of a season of Formula Ford racing. With FF1600 returning to Mondello Park in the guise of the 2014 Champion of Mondello series, Murray will have plenty of competition!
