Bustard Confirmed Champion as Irish Juniors Prepare for final round at Kirkistown!
October 2, 2013 by Andrew Bushe
17 year old Adam Bustard from Castlederg has been confirmed as the 2013 McGrady Insurance Junior Rally Challenge Ireland Champion, as the crews head into the final round this weekend at Kirkistown. Adam in his Chevrolet Spark cannot be caught when dropped scores are taken into account after a great season where he scored maximum points on three of the six rounds which have run to date.
Originally the final round was to take place at St.Angelo, but the Enniskillen club’s rally this weekend is now running in the forests, and the Juniors looked for an alternative event on the same date. Thanks to the help of the 500MRCI the final round will now feature stages during this Saturday’s sprint meeting at the Co. Down venue. It will be an all tarmac attack for the Juniors with other championship positions still to be decided.
Second in the point’s standings is 17 year old Kyle White. The Finaghy driver has won two rounds this season in his Peugeot 107, and like Adam he will leaving the series at the end of the season. Before that however he has to try and maintain that second place from William Creighton. The 15 year old Moira driver has won one round this season, and he is fresh from a superb second place on his first visit to the Kames Rally in Scotland last weekend, where he not only finished ahead of last year’s Irish Junior Champion Ben Crealey, but was tied on time with twice Scottish Champion Alex Vassallo until half way through the event.
15 year old James Partridge, fourth in the point’s race is hoping for a good clean run with his Peugeot 107. James gained a lot of experience from his last event on the difficult Solway Coast Rally in Scotland, and this could bring added confidence over his rivals behind him, who didn’t take the start in Scotland. Philip White is next up in his Micra, and the 14 year old Crumlin driver on his debut season has got faster with each round, and this showed through at Bishopscourt in July. Also 14 and Micra mounted, is Belfast’s Michael McGarrity. Michael from the famous McGarrity motor sporting family is sixth in the point’s race and gaining more experience round by round. Newry’s Eoghan Bogue, missed the last two rounds of the series and is re-joining this weekend in his Micra. He has a chance of jumping up in the title race, and is very keen to get back into the groove.
This series, now in its second year is also supported this season by the rally classified ads website www.rallysales.eu and Yokohama tyres. To keep up to date please type in Junior 1000 Challenge Ireland into Facebook, and the latest points are also on www.anicc.org.uk
