THE 2014 Northern Ireland motor racing season gets into gear at Kirkistown circuit on Saturday 29 March and the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland will have an eight race programme.
Topping the programme a double header for Formula Ford 1600 which will count for not only the Northern Ireland Formula Ford Championship but also the All Ireland Formula Ford Championship. With three Formula Ford 1600 Championships being staged in Ireland this year we can be sure of quality grids. Niall Murray winner of the 2013 Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch and the Motorsport Ireland supported driver for 2014 speaking at the recent National Classic Car Show at the RDS, Dublin; “I will be contesting all three championships this season and my aim is to win all three”. Formula Fords have already been in action at Mondello Park in the opening rounds of the new Champion of Mondello series and Neville Smyth and Stephen Daly enjoyed race success. Murray set two poles and two fastest laps so we can expect some very close racing at the County Down venue.
This opening race meeting brings a variety of cars to the County Down venue, tin top fans will have the low budget Fiestas who certainly have proved they can entertain and the Kirkistown Saloons will be joined by the GTs. Roadsports and Legends will have two races just like the Fiestas and the Saloon/GTs.
