Commemorating Car & Motorcycle Racing at the Curragh

August 2, 2012 by Oliver McCrossan

As part of National Heritage Week for 2012  the Curragh Local History Group are planning to hold a reunion at Lumville House Hotel , Curragh, on Saturday August 25th to commemorate the car and motorcycle races held there between the years 1947 and 1967.  The track on which these races took place was known as the Curragh “Short Circuit”.  It was used for the first time by the Leinster Motor Club who organised a very successful event catering for cars and motorcycles on July 12th 1947. Regular car races were held there until 1954 when the final race took place, however motorcycle events were held there until 1967.  Joe Flynn in his TC MG had the honour of winning the first car race there and Paul Conran set fastest lap in the final motorcycle event in 1967.

We are inviting former competitors and their friends to come along to Lumville House Hotel on August 25th to take part in a display of cars and motorcycles, and to view some photographs of past events.
