Graham wins BRDC F4 Championship for Douglas Motorsport

Matthew Graham arrived at Brands Hatch for the final round of the BRDC F4 Winter Series leading the championship and keen to return to the top step of the podium on route to wrapping up the 2013 title.
A strong qualifying session on Saturday morning allowed Graham to line up on the front row of the grid for the opening race of the weekend. Consistency was going to be key to maintaining the series lead over night and a second and fourth place finish in Saturday’s two races would see him carry a five point lead into day two at the Kent Circuit. Not wanting to take anything for granted, Graham put his Douglas Motorsport car on pole position for Sunday’s first race and went on to convert it to a win with his closest championship rivals only managing fourth and fifth place finishes respectively. Starting the final race of the weekend from fourth on the grid, Matthew kept his nose clean and crossed the line in sixth position to become the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Winter Series Champion.
On his way to Championship victory, Matthew secured three pole positions and three race wins one of which was by a record braking 11 seconds, the largest winning margin seen in the new-for-2013 series.
Speaking after the weekend Matthew said, “It’s an amazing feeling to win the Winter Championship. We’ve worked hard and Douglas Motorsport have done an excellent job. There was a bit of pressure coming into the series as I was touted as a favourite but I’ve done what I came here to do and I’m very happy with myself. Hopefully we can use this as a springboard to Europe next season!”
Douglas Motorsport Team Principal Wayne Douglas expressed his delight at winning the winter series championship, “Matty has done a fantastic job for the team taking the BRDC F4 title this weekend. After a very strong showing at Snetterton taking two wins, he then went on to back it up with some very sensible driving and another race win this weekend. We’re delighted to have worked with Matty and we look forward to more success in this series in the near future.”
Douglas Motorsport are now moving their attention to 2014 where they plan to expand their team to three Formula 4 cars alongside their two-car Ginetta GT Supercup Team.
