July 21, 2012 by Matt Griffin Racing
Irishman Matt Griffin will head to the Spa 24hr next weekend hoping for a repeat of the 2011 event where he finished on the podium in the pro-am class.
The prestigious race, which takes place at the famous Spa Francorchamps circuit, is set to be a thriller with an expected 80 car entry.
Griffin will pilot the number 21 Ferrari 458 GT3 for regular team Mtech Racing along with Co-drivers Duncan Cameron, Mike Edmonds and Italian Niki Cadai.
Having been very successful so far this year in the big endurance races, including winning the Abu Dhabi 12hr and finishing on the podium in both the Bathurst 12hr and Rd 2 of the World Endurance Championship, the Irish Driver is very confident heading to Spa.
“I feel really good heading into this race. I love the circuit and the event. The Mtech team is very strong, we have a great driver line up and the Ferrari 458 is a very fast car so all the ingredients are there for a good result. Obviously there is luck involved but all you can do as a team is be as prepared as possible and I think we are” noted Matt
There will be no rest for the Ferrari GT driver, on his return he will compete in Rd 7 and 8 of the British GT Championship the following weekend where he and co-driver Duncan Cameron currently lie 2nd in the standings.
The activities at Spa are kicked off by the Drivers parade, which takes place in Spa town on Wednesday afternoon with practice and qualifying taking place on Thursday.
The race is due to start at 4pm Saturday.
