Griffin ready for Silverstone World Endurance Championship
August 21, 2012 by Matt Griffin Press Office
Irishman Matt Griffin is confident going into this weekend’s round 4 of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) event being held at Silverstone, Northamptonshire where he will Pilot the number 61 AF Corse – Waltrip entered Ferrari 458 GTE.
After finishing 3rd in the Rd 2 of the WEC in Spa, The Ferrari GT driver is hungry to go two better at Silverstone, which is his local circuit and one that has suited the Ferrari in the past with its fast flowing nature. “I feel very good about the weekend ahead. The world Endurance championship is the toughest series in the world but I know AF Corse will give me a very fast package as usual. We were very competitive at Le Mans and finished 3rd at Spa so I think we can challenge for victory at Silverstone.”
There is no rest for Matt as he and fellow AF Corse driver Gianmaria Bruni will travel directly from Silverstone to Kuala Lumpur where they will drive for Clearwater Racing in the famous Merdeka 12hr race held at Sepang International Circuit. The pair will be joined by reigning Asian GT Champion Mok Weng Sun and after retiring due to a mechanical problem 1hr from the end of this race last year Griffin feels like he has unfinished business. “The Merdeka is a very very tough race but I want to finish the job this year and I am sure we are up to the task. Clearwater Racing is a world class team and we have a top group of drivers, so the plan is to push for the win. To be able to travel to Malaysia after a good result at Silverstone that will give me maximum confidence.
The Merdeka Endurance race takes place at Sepang international circuit, Malaysia on the 1st of September.
