Jamie Steps It Up- with Jamie Masterson
August 15, 2013 by Jamie Masterson
After another great weekend for all the JMR squad at rounds 7 and 8 of the Adelaide Masters series from Bishopscourt, I’m now well on top of my game knocking seconds of my personal best laptime around the Northern Irish Circuit. After a slow start to the season where I struggled to even match my laptimes from last year I’ve clicked into another gear and ‘pooped the finger out’, overcome my struggle and am now ‘at the races’!!!
After some hard training over the past few weeks it has really proved its worth and being a major part of my jump in pace. Along with some positive thinking and determination Its boosted my confidence and I’m now riding the best I ever have! I qualified pretty poorly in a lonely 22nd position but I knew that once the red lights changed I was gonna leave my grid position like a scaulded cat…
Race 1 I lined the big JMR SUZUKI up and as soon as those red lights even flickered I dumped the clutch and got myself into the middle of 25 loonies all fighting for the same piece of tarmac.. I made 5 or 6 places in the first corner and got into a train where I picked off more lads.. finally finishing up 13th overall.. well chuffed after a poor qualifying
Race 2 again I got a good start but got boxed in in turns 1 and 3 which left me with plenty of work to do.. picking off lads every lap I got back up into 15th spot and ended up in a wheel to wheel battle with Cup championship leader Frank Smyth where I sized him up for a last lap pass.. the last lap came and I got a better run through the flat out chicane and stuffed it up his inside into the last chicane. Crossed the line in 1/10 of a second ahead of Smyth to finish in a very good 14th out of 25 top riders. And I knocked 2 seconds off my pb time! All in all a great weekend and now I’m finally starting to get to grips with my big superbike!!
Looking forward to the next round at Mondello park where I’m hoping for a top 10 finish!!
Over and out..
