Jordan Top of the Class on the Circuit of Ireland!

April 23, 2014 by Andrew Bushe

For 18 year old A Level student Jordan Hone, he was truly top of the class on the weekend’s Circuit

of Ireland Rally, as he took his Premier Car Parts Nissan Micra to a class nine victory of over eleven

minutes! It was Jordan’s first time contesting the Circuit of Ireland, and with eighteen tough stages

over two days, it was one of his hardest challenges ever. Co-driven by his father Paul, the Dungiven

student never put a foot wrong all weekend on stages that claimed many victims.

Taking a break from revising for his A Level Engineering exams, Jordan explained. “It was a brilliant

rally. When I watched it on TV each night, to think that you were racing down the same stages as the

European Championship guys was amazing. The first day stages were particularly good, especially

the Bucks Head and Ballygowan tests, so fast and flowing.” The Rally Hire Micra was running

superbly, and a change onto a harder rear tyre to suit the hot conditions was the only alteration on

the first day, which saw them finish 37th out of 83 crews, and command a staggering eight minute

class lead. “I took the first loop cautiously in places as it was the Ulster last year since I drove on

closed roads, and then we had a big push on the second loop of the day.”

The 1300cc Micra was being pushed further on day two, and despite losing some time with an

powered machinery. “I over-cooked the brakes a little on the long 28 kilometre stage, but other than

intermittent problem, it was just about a perfect run, to end up 31st

that it was a great run, and the stages were some of the best I have ever driven. It was great to be

part of such a big event and thanks to everyone that helped, including our other sponsors ARC Car

Care Centre and 1st Gear Driving Academy.”

The all-important A Level exams start in three weeks, so its head into the books for Jordan, but

after that the plan is contest the Nicky Grist Stages in the Welsh forests, to sample the BTRDA

championship, against the class of the UK 1400cc class runners. “We would like to try those BTRDA

rallies, as the opposition in the category is very tough, and to sample the Welsh stages that I’ve

heard a lot about. I really enjoy driving the car and we couldn’t ask for a better team around us.”

Certainly after this fast, mature drive on the Circuit of Ireland, Jordan Hone could be a name to look

out for in the future.
