Laverty on Top- Day 1 of testing at Phillip Island, with Jim Halligan.
February 17, 2014 by Jim Halligan
Day one of the WSB testing at Philip Island and Eugene Laverty topped the time sheets on his Voltcom Suzuki- an impressive feat as he was just on the outright lap record and just three tenths away! Speaking to Eugene at the Belfast bike show last week, he had nothing but praise for his new team and said that after the first test they have changed the whole bike around in six weeks to suit his style and it seems to be working for him at the moment although the machine might not suit some of the other tracks later in the year the whole crew have done a massive job and his new Team mate Alex Lowes in 5th position proved the Suzuki will be a force to be taken seriously.
With the new regulations controlling the number of engines allowed by each team this will suit some of the less well funded teams as rumour had it that Aprilia used over 40 engines winning the championship with Max Biaggi!
The top speeds were as impressive as ever with Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki through the speed gun at 196.9 mph and Laverty at 195 mph so the regulations are leveling the field and interestingly the Aprilias, at 196mph, are down from last year’s 200 mph mark.
