Mondello “Young Guns” to join OPH.ie GT Series.

Sean Doyle and Jake Byrne will compete in the next round of the OPH.ie Mondello Park GT series this Sunday at the wheel of Mondello Park’s Dunlop Supercar as the “Mondello Young Guns” team. The spacefame car runs a 2 litre Zetec engine producing approximately 220bhp and a Quaife 6 speed sequential gearbox and should be capable of lapping the Mondello Park National circuit in around the 60 second mark, perhaps even in the 59 second bracket in ideal conditions. This weekend’s race meeting sees the first of the GT pitstop races, where one driver starts the race and hands over to the other half way through.
Doyle and Byrne are part of the latest generation of talented young drivers who are racing in Formula Ford 1600 and both have shown well this year- they both also instruct at Mondello Park’s Motor Race Experience and are both former nominees for the Irish Sports Council supported Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year award.
The Dunlop Supercar is one of Mondello Park’s fleet of over 50 vehicles, which are used all year round for corporate events at the County Kildare circuit.
