Dempsey Aims to Stay on Top in Autobahn
Championship leader Peter Dempsey goes in search of another haul of points to bring his dream of Star Mazda series glory a little closer in Autobahn, Joliet, Illinois this weekend.
The Ashbourne driver was in dominant form with his Juncos Racing car on the oval in Iowa just over a week ago but knows that maintaining his advantage will be no easy task on the Illinois road course this weekend.
Facing a double header of race action on Sunday, Dempsey and his Juncos crew prepared for battle with a two day test at the venue last week, emerging satisfied that they have established a good base set up with the car.
While he is eager to maintain the momentum built up after the last two events on ovals, Dempsey acknowledges that Autobahn is a very different proposition.
“We had a two day test at Autobahn last week which went quite well, and we found a set up that gives us a good starting point for the weekend”, says Dempsey. “Of course Autobahn is a road course so the team has completely altered the suspension layout, and it’s like starting all over again.
"We can assume nothing after Iowa, but the team works well and has a great approach to the job ahead. I’m confident we can be right up there pushing for results and points on Sunday."
