NI FF1600 title in the balance ahead of Saturday’s Kirkistown meeting!

THE penultimate car race meeting of the Ulster season takes place at Kirkistown circuit on Saturday 31 August and the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland has lined up a bumper programme.
There are only four rounds remaining in the Northern Ireland Formula Ford Championship, two on Saturday 31 August with the final two to be staged at Mondello Park next month at the Leinster Trophy meeting at Mondello Park.
Ballymena driver Ivor McCullough has the title virtually in his grasp but that does not for one minute say that the others will not be trying, drivers such as Jonny McMullan and Adrian Pollock will be aiming to stay ahead.
Double headers are very much a feature of the August meeting and sportscar fans will be delighted to know that there will be two races for Roadsports.
Power will be provided by a double header for the Irish Formula Libre Championship and outright circuit lap record holder Philip Shields heads the entry list with his GP2 car. Can the Banbridge driver lower his lap record figure any more? Given the right conditions he just might.
Further single seater action with the Formula Sheane Championship, close racing from the Irish produced and Rover powered cars and included in the line up is Newcastle born Jennifer Mullan.
Tin tops are always a crowd puller at the County Down circuit and again a double header for Saloons and they will be joined by the GTs.
A single race for the low budget Ford Fiestas and can anyone at last beat Portadown’s James Turkington, he has won every race so far at Kirkistown in this new class.
Qualifying is from 9.30am with racing from 1.30pm.
