Old & New at Kirkistown as Historic Formula Juniors join regular classes for May Meeting.
May 26, 2014 by Ian Lynas
A mix of the old and the new at the May Car Race meeting at Kirkistown organised by the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland. Saturday 31May is the date.
Race cars from yesteryear, Historic Formula Juniors, Elva, Lola, Gemini, Alexis, Bandini and Stanguellini will take to the County Down track and the last time a Stanguellini appeared in Northern Ireland was at the TT in 1955.
Much more modern racing will be provided by two rounds of the hotly contested Formula Ford 1600 series, currently being led by Niall Murray and he will have to fight off a strong challenge from the likes of Noel Dunne and the former N.I Sevens Champion Alan Davidson who has switched to single seaters and he really impressed on his first outing. Driving the Hugh Reid Mondiale a driver to watch.
Fiestas may be at the budget end of the business but when it comes to the track they score high on entertainment and racegoers will be pleased to know, they have two championship rounds.
Saloon action does not rest with the Fords; the organisers are putting on a non championship race for the tin tops.
Roadsports have attracted a strong entry; watch out for Jim Larkham at the wheel of his Radical and N.I Sevens always deliver very close racing.
