Rabbitt in Last Minute Leinster Trophy Challenge
September 13, 2012 by Leo
Barry Rabbitt is the latest to throw his name in the hat for the Leinster Trophy Formula Sheane race at Mondello Park this weekend. The former Uno Cup Champion has developed a reputation as something of an all rounder in Irish racing circles lately although this will be his first foray into single seater racing. More recently he has been developing Dave Clarke’s incredible Supercharged Golf, crossing the line first at the Phoenix Park Races last month and leading some far more powerful cars in the Kirkistown GTs until gearbox problems dropped him to third. Barry is also involved in the highly sucessful Race2Race concept and he has successfully coached novice John Greaney to the ITCC Touring Class Title already this year.
“I tested a Formula Sheane earlier in the year, just for a bit of fun and loved it. They are quick and move around a lot on track so they take a bit of driving. I know the frontrunners are quick but I don’t intend being too far off and it’s a long race on the International Circuit so you never know what might happen”, said Barry yesterday
The car was bought by Motorsport.ie’s Leo Nulty on Wednesday and initially BTCC star Aron Smith was to drive. When it transpired Aron could not test the car due to other comittments, he was ruled out and Barry Rabbitt, unsurprisingly, was top of the list to replace him. “It is a typical last minute bit of fun”, said Nulty, “and as Barry says, the top guys are very quick, but certainly I would not be surprised if he springs a major surprise, it wouldn’t be the first applecart he has upset this year!”
Rabbitt will be backed for the weekend by Race2Race, Deliver-It, Patch Tyre Supplies and Rathcoole Motor Factors.”
