Saloons and GTs to star at June Kirkistown meeting

June 15, 2014 by Ian Lynas

There is a packed programme for the 500MRCI June race meeting at Kirkistown which takesplace on Saturday 21 June.

There are double headers for Formula Ford 1600, Saloon/GTs, Ginetta Juniors, Irish Formula Vee and Irish Formula Sheane. Adding to the mix there are races for gearbox karts.

Fresh from the Irish Formula Ford Festival at Mondello Park, the battle resumes for points in the Northern Ireland Formula Ford Championship and to date Niall Murray and Noel Dunne have three race victories each and hot in their wheeltracks is the leading local points scorer Adrian Pollock. Saloons/GTs produce a variety grid and in the opening two meetings of the year Connaire Finn was the driver to beat in GTs while in saloons Stephen Traub with his Honda and record breaker Mike Johnston in a BMW M3 set a blistering pace. Other drivers to watch, Donal O’Neill in his SEAT Cupra and Tony Traub (Honda). Ginetta Juniors is a class for aspiring young racers and they mark their second return to the fast County Down circuit. On their first appearance of the year it was Jack Finlay and Wilson Thompson who produced the race wins. Also watch out for Charlie Linnane.

A very welcome addition to the programme visiting classes to deliver further single seater action, Irish Formula Vees and Sheanes. Drivers to watch in Vees are Adam McCauley, Stephen Morrin, Morgan McCourt and Mark Miller while the more powerful Sheanes feature the likes of Brian Hearty and John Linnane.
