Sean Lillis is Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Month – August 2013
September 26, 2013 by Motorsport Ireland
Congratulations to 22 year-old Sean Lillis from Kilsallaghan, Co Dublin, who has been selected as the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for August.
Sean scored a win and a third place at Mondello Park on August 25 in the newly created and ultra-competitive Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta Zetec Championship, and also set the best lap in the second race. This was the fourth time this year that he has been the fastest car in the capacity field.
Combined with two other wins, two second places and a number of other good results, the Dubliner has ended his debut season in runner-up position in the championship and the winner of the Rookie title.
Sean only started car racing this year, having competed in a few kart races when he was aged 9 and 10. He and his father prepared the Fiesta for the new class and it was right on the pace from the first race.
He is an apprentice mechanic with Michael Barrable Motors, and very much appreciates the support he has received from them. His sponsors are Lillis-O’Donnell Motor Company, Ballinlough Refrigeration, Breffni Plant Hire and MC’S Auto Factors.
Sean will finish his season with a Fiesta race at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in October, and intends contesting the Mondello series again next year, with the hope of taking the overall title this time.
Having been selected as the fifth Dunlop Driver of the Month for the 2013 season, Sean is now a contender for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually and is supported by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
