Senna at Mondello Park- the full race.

November 27, 2013 by Leo Nulty

Well here it is, the famous race where Senna blew everyone away at the 1982 Leinster Trophy. Joey Greenan and Pat Duffy give good accounts of themselves too, despite the Euroseries running different tyres to the domestic Irish series at the time. Despite the myth that Senna took Greenan around the outside at Duckhams, you can see here that Greenan slowed on the exit of BOAC, turn two, and Senna was ahead by the first apex of Duckhams. Joey’s story lends credence to this, as he claims he had a gear linkage problem after the Irish FF2000 race and had no time to fix it properly. either way, once “Da Silva” took the lead, he disappeared up the road and won the race by almost half a lap. Interestingly, he is still locking wheels and pushing hard towards the end of the race, despite the huge lead! Apologies for the quality, it is 2nd or 3rd generation VHS at this stage! Enjoy!
