SGC by KCMG Formula Nippon rookie tests for Thompson and Howson

SGC by KCMG will cap off the year by embarking on a two-day rookie test for Japan’s top-level single-seater racing series, Formula Nippon on November 19-20. Gary Thompson and Matt Howson, two of SGC by KCMG’s drivers for their 2012 All-Japan Formula 3 Championship campaign, will take part in the post-season testing in Fuji.
The two-day test will allow aspiring drivers to sample the power of a much advanced Formula car and will help determine possible new drivers for the approaching championship campaign next year. Considered as one of the quickest categories following Formula One in the hierarchy of motor racing, Formula Nippon has been the launching pad of several successful drivers’ careers, namely Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa.
Thompson and Howson are currently in Japan gearing up for this exceptional opportunity. Both drivers eagerly anticipate the test and have expressed their gratitude for this massive break. Irish driver Gary Thompson states, “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to test with KCMG in Formula Nippon. It’s a great chance for me to drive the 2nd quickest category in the world and I’d like to thank KCMG for the opportunity. It’s a very big step up from Formula 3 but I’m really looking forward to the challenge and would like to do a good job for the team.”
UK-based driver Matt Howson shares the same sentiment and has expressed, “It’s a massive ambition of 12 years realised to be testing in Formula Nippon. The cars are second only to F1 in performance, and its one of the highest levels of competition in motorsport, so it’s where I want to be in the future. I’ve never driven anything with so much power so I will take my time and learn before pushing. I’m also happy to be making my debut with the same team I have raced with for the last season, and I hope I can impress them with my performance.”
Formula Nippon’s two-day rookie test will commence at Fuji Speedway on Monday.
