Murray is already making his mark in FF1600

Niall Murray approached Bishopscourt confident of a strong weekend for rounds two and three of the All Ireland Formula Ford Championship. After an encouraging performance in the official pre-event test, Murray was aiming for at least one race win and to leave the weekend second in the championship. The weekend would not start out so well for the young... [Read more...]

After a year break of being at the fabulous Bishopscourt race circuit it was again time to head up to the Co.Down circuit. I headed up Friday afternoon  in my Nissan Juke supplied by Nissan Ireland (very economical- the 1.5dci Puredrive engine is brilliant.)  On Saturday morning we had two 15 minutes sessions to get with the grips of the track once... [Read more...]

Pushing hard in the MCP Van Diemen

For 2013 I am moving to FF1600. This is the class that many F1 drivers started their careers in over the years and the Irish scene is known to be top class. I am running with Morgan Dempsey in his MCP Van Diemen which I used at the FF Festival in Brands Hatch last year, and loved!  The season kicked off last week at Kirkistown, on the Ards peninsula... [Read more...]

I know I am getting old when my articles start off talking about memories of childhood trips to Mondello- but I won’t apologise for it! Back then, I was more into saloons but once I started karting, I took a far keener interest in single seaters- and especially FF1600. Back in the day, there were so many entries that there were three races... [Read more...]

In 2012 for the second year we were going to be driving the NI Radiator Services Mondiale 89s in the Northern Ireland Formula Ford 1600 Championship! From a very good end to the 2011 season we went into the new season feeling confident about the year ahead! It started well and in March at the first round we started the new season with a bang winning... [Read more...]

Kevin O’Hara: The Walter Hayes Trophy

Kevin sits in the Silverstone pitlane ready to go on track for one of the Walter Hayes Trophy heats

If you had asked me two weeks prior to the Walter Hayes Trophy this year if I was planning to do it I probably would have laughed at you. It was a very late decision and meant a very busy ten days of preparation on a car that hadn’t turned a wheel in over three years! But given the opportunity to do the most competitive Formula Ford 1600 race of the... [Read more...]

It’s not often we have to post bad news stories here on Motorsport.ie but this one is important. FF1600 racer Chris Paul has had his 1993 Mondiale nd trailer stolen from Hillsborough in the past few days. The trailer, as can be seen from the picture, is very distinctive so please keep an eye out for it and pass it on to anyone you know who drives... [Read more...]
