Jake at the Kirkistown chicane in his FF1600 Van Diemen.
The start of my Formula Ford Trophy races started with the Martin Donnelly Trophy at Kirkistown last weekend. After a great late season burst of five wins out of six and a double race win in the Global GT Light the last time I was at Kirkistown I felt confident that I could get myself into a rhythm in my Van Diemen RF90 which would give me a chance... Jake at speed in his hastily repaired Global en route to the 2013 title!
The Global GT Lights were racing on Sunday at the Leinster Trophy race weekend. Qualifying turned out to be very wet and a last minute decision was made to put wet tyres on. Unfortunately a brake balance issue prematurely ended my qualifying session in the gravel trap up at Dunlop after a big lock-up! Unfortunately I didn’t complete a lap in qualifying... [Read more...]

Jake at speed in the GrANA Energy ABR run Global GT Light.
It has been a hectic schedule over the last few weekends with races in Kirkistown, Mondello Park and then last weekend off to Anglesey with the Global GT Lights for a non-championship event. I was looking forward to some close racing which you always get with the Globals and as it is a non-championship event, grids were drawn so there was sure to be... [Read more...]

A bad weekend turned good when Jake swapped his FF1600 for a Global GT Light! Image from James Foley.
The plan was simple build on the recent success and performance from Oulton Park prepare the car well, prepare myself well, get everything ready and make a real breakthrough for the weekend in Formula Ford at the Laura Lynn Formula Vee festival. A weight miscalculation – basic and simple and one I won’t make again – causing the car to be underweight... [Read more...]

Ready for the off at Oulton Park!
I was looking forward to my first trip to Oulton Park and the new experience of the circuit having never even seen it before. We were bringing my Van Diemen RF90 to race in the pre-99 class and we hoped that we would be able to show up well against the later and normally faster post-98 cars while we were there. In the best traditions of motor racing... [Read more...]

After a season long battle with James Fleming, Jake Byrne adds his name to the Ginetta Junior Ireland history books by becoming the 2012 Ginetta Junior Ireland Champion.
