Lashing, pouring, pi$$ing, call it what you like but it’s a long time since Mondello Park experienced rain like that. It was on and off all day but when it eventually let go, during the Patch Fiesta Qualifier, it was as if someone had angered the gods. The sheets of rain were of biblical proportions and within a minute or two, the track was completely... [Read more...]

Hard at work mid race. Excellent image from Michael Chester (chester.ie)
It was back to the FF1600 last weekend in Mondello Park, and with two races on the card and qualifying all in the one day it was going to be a action packed weekend from the off! Qualifying went well with it still being slightly damp around the track after rain during the evening. We were changing setup right until the final seconds before leaving... [Read more...]

The Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta Series has been a huge success and allows many first timers to make their debut on a limited budget.
Like many of us it has always been an aim of mine to race in Mondello Park some day. The idea of this blog is to follow the journey of starting racing from scratch on a tight budget. Previous experience in motorsport for me consists of a few seasons in Autograss in the Carlow and Down I’ve raced rental karts with the D.I.T Karting Club. The aim... [Read more...]

Well it’s the middle of the summer, the Vee championship is in full swing and the rounds are coming thick and fast. Things have been going well, very well. After the Dnf at round 1I had four wins on the bounce coming up to the Vee festival. Ray Moore came out for this one and duly showed me up by beating me soundly in the championship round on Saturday.... [Read more...]

I have to begin by saying that my debut in the Future Classics class at the Vee Festival (supporting the amazing Lauralynn charity,) was an unexpected venture which I was certainly unprepared for but unbelievable. The rollercoaster began with driving my adorable Fiesta XR2 for the first time on the Friday before the event, with racing on Sunday only... [Read more...]

Battling to keep series leader Sean Lillis behind!
I’ve been a big fan of the Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta championship since its inception, I started racing in a similar series, the Fiat Uno Championship and always felt it was a great way to learn the art of racing cars. So when I was approached by John Woods from Blackchurch Motors to drive their car for the remainder of the season I didn’t... [Read more...]

It’s been about two years since I’ve driven a Formula Sheane but last week Motorsport.ie’s Leo Nulty approached me and asked would I be interested in driving his Formula Sheane at the weekend at the Dunlop Formula Vee Festival. So as usual with last minute things it was a bit of a rush on Friday morning before testing we had to change... [Read more...]
