nSome coverage from the 1979 Phoenix Park Races. This was the 50th anniversary of the 1929 Irish Grand Prix at the same venue. It includes interviews with Eddie Jordan, Frank O’Rourke, Des Cullen etc. It features two production saloon car races, the first one is a straightforward scratch race, where the Mazda RX-3 of Phil Sparkes puts it up to... Marlboro sponosred the 1980 Phoenix Park Meeting.
This one is from back in 1980. Vivian Candy entered but didn’t show in the “Hallspeed” Imp which created all the controversy at the park previously and ironically enough, there was a class for “superloon” or fully spaceframed cars at this event. This attracted UK entries such as Viv Wallace in the incredible Maguire Mini,... [Read more...]

Some interesting names and machines in this one....
Looking at the entry list for this one, you would expect a Sunbeam Tiger or maybe the E Type Jaguar to be first across the line. That, though, would be reckoning without the incredible supercharged MG TB of UK visitor Glyn Giusti. Giusti has been to the Park before and always gone well, despite a few technical issues. In this one Paddins Dowling outbrakes... [Read more...]

Metro Mayhem at Dublin Corner. Image from Con Connolly.
The UK MG Metro Challenge visited The ‘Park in 1986 and somebody talked Billy Coleman into taking a drive in one. The results are hilarious with Billy describing his turn one tangle as a “Territorial Dispute”. Roger Eccles also brought his new Merc 190 over and blew away all the Production Saloons on the Saturday- the second race on... [Read more...]

This video has hit over a staggering half million views on YouTube!
Today’s offering is my most famous video, the so-called ‘Seagull Video’ It hails from the Saturday Formula Vee race of the Phoenix Park Races in 2007, and has a bit of everything really being high on comedy, drama, along with being on first glance unbelievable. What initially appears to be a car with a seagull on the front spreading... [Read more...]

The weekend of the 18th& 19th of August held host to the 110th anniversary of the Phoenix Park Motor Races. The first time I was ever in the Park was at the age of just 3 months old in a pram but through the last 20 years I have been to everyone that has been held, either through club events or with Dad racing in the Historics or the Porsches. My... [Read more...]

Bit of a heart stopping moment in the Spire! Photo: Cregor Elliott
4pm on Friday of “The ‘Park”, Clock off work, the truck is waiting outside and hit the N7. Arrived at the Park at 5.30pm and thankfully Keno has saved me a spot but we decided to move.. parking took a while! Finally park up the trailer and start unloading the truck. I started my Park weekend with a visit to the paddock on Friday evening after work. Teams were arriving and setting up while the track builders were putting final touches to the circuit leaving themselves with as little as possible to do when the roads closed Saturday morning. I stayed a couple of hours and arranged a lift for the following morning. The... [Read more...]

The last time I raced was in a Coupe de France Formula Renault round at Albi, Southern France in March 2007, and haven’t raced due to no sponsorship like a lot of other drivers. I managed to do a late deal to race Delta Motorsports Delta T79 at the Phoenix Park Motor Races, with no chance to test I only drove the car in qualifying on Saturday... [Read more...]
