Team Ireland confident ahead for Monza
June 6, 2014 by Leo Nulty
Round 4 of the Acceleration 14 series takes place this weekend at the famous Monza circuit located just outside Milan in Italy where Ireland will be represented once again by Eoin Murray and Niki Meredith.
Both Irish drivers have had an extremely strong start to the series. Meredith currently lies second in the Legend Supercup after a hatrick of victories at the last event in Nurburgring. Murray currently leads the MW-V6 Pickup despite only scoring a single point for pole position at the last event having had a string of mechanical failures. Impressively Murray has scored 4 victories out of the 5 races he has finished.
Speaking ahead of the weekend Murray commented “After all the issues 2 weeks ago at Nurburgring I am determined to bounce
back and Monza is the perfect place for me to do so as I have always been strong there. It is a fast track, one that I really love and with such a fast race car it is bound to be exciting!.”
Given the nature of the circuit slip steaming always plays a big part in the races and the Legends are known for their close racing. The Legend race is likely to be a tactile battle with drivers placing themselves in the prime position on the exit of Parabolica the final corner onto the main straight.
“I’m happy with the pace we had last time out, hopefully we carry it over. However, I can’t see anyone making a breakaway here in Monza. It’ll be a matter of making sure you’re near the front then waiting for the last lap before making a move. ” said Niki.
The Pickups have one qualifying session Friday and one on Saturday morning, then two races Saturday and one race on Sunday. The Legends have two races Saturday and two races Sunday. You can follow the live timing and updates on www.acceleration14.com
