VIDEO- Formula Opel Lotus from Mondello in 1991.

February 12, 2014 by Leo Nulty

1991 was the first year of the Formula Opel-Lotus series in Ireland. Vivion Daly and Morgan Dempsey Junior were generally at the front but former works Van Diemen driver Ruari O’Coileain in the Cliff Dempsey Racing machine was bang on the pace too. Series regular Joey Greenan had been sidelined after a pushbike accident and this meant there was an opening for Noel Roddy which, as you will see here, he grabbed with both hands to take on the series pacesetters. Others on the grid include PJ Fallon, Denis Sheehan, Derek M Daly and Sam Thompson, whilst Alan McGarrity was sidelined having blown an engine in practise.
Includes an interview with EFDA’s Dan Partel at the start.
