VIDEO- Historic Race at The Phoenix Park Motor Races 1982

Looking at the entry list for this one, you would expect a Sunbeam Tiger or maybe the E Type Jaguar to be first across the line. That, though, would be reckoning without the incredible supercharged MG TB of UK visitor Glyn Giusti. Giusti has been to the Park before and always gone well, despite a few technical issues. In this one Paddins Dowling outbrakes himself into Mountjoy Corner on lap one and takes out the fast starting Lotus 7 of NI visitor Alex Furphy. This allows the pre war 1500cc car of Giusti through and at the end of the first lap he had a healthy lead from the later MG TC of Will Corry and Maurice Cassidy’s MGB. Robin Patterson charges through the grid but a late race spin drops him back.
As a kid I was enthralled by the incredible MG. My Dad had an MG TD at the time and I spent many nights in the garage behind the wheel pretending to be at the wheel of the lurid mustard coloured TB- trouncing allcomers obviously!
Watch out also for David Dunne, manhandling the large Lagonda beautifully, in shirt sleeves! The quality is not great, but the content more than makes up for it!
