VIDEO- Star of Tomorrow FF1600 from Mondello Park 1997

The FF1600 “Star of Tomorrow” was aptly named in Irish FF1600 back in the day. It was the series the young karters raced in as they cut their teeth in car racing. There were almost always titanic battles lasting most of the season and by the seasons’ end, the frontrunners often matched the pace of the quickest guys in the “Ford of Ireland” “A” race. In 1997, the late Neil Shanahan was the man, in his Batchelor Inn supported and Mick Merrigan run Van Diemen.  He didn’t have it all his own way in this one though, as Mick Keohane in the Cliff Dempsey run Swift was determined to show Neil who was boss, especially in front of the TV cameras. The resultant battle still makes great watching today.
